Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global IT services, consulting, and business solutions powerhouse, has strengthened its decade-long collaboration with Morrisons, one of the United Kingdom’s largest supermarket chains. The grocer serves nearly 11 million customers weekly across 500 stores. Under the renewed agreement, TCS will streamline Morrisons’ operations across essential business units such as retail, marketing, and e-commerce. By doing so, the company aims to elevate efficiency and accelerate its overall digital transformation journey.
The initiative centers on enabling Morrisons to deliver on its long-term strategic goals. TCS will help refine customer experience, optimize the loyalty program, enhance operational processes, and support market expansion. To achieve this, TCS will offer comprehensive engineering services, including application design, development, testing, and maintenance. It will also modernize legacy systems and incorporate AI-driven solutions to strengthen service delivery.
Moreover, TCS plans to establish an automation factory and a Business Intelligent Command Centre (BICC) to give Morrisons real-time visibility across its operations. This approach will support faster problem resolution, reduce service disruptions and manual workloads, and enable smarter data-backed decision-making. These upgrades are expected to deliver seamless and personalized experiences to customers.
In addition, TCS will overhaul Morrisons’ digital platforms powering loyalty, retail, e-commerce, and marketing. This large-scale digital modernization directly supports Morrisons’ refreshed operating model, which leans on AI, automation, and advanced software engineering to introduce new digital solutions more quickly. The partnership has already enabled Morrisons to consolidate multiple vendors, ensuring stronger collaboration and operational alignment across business units.
Stuart O’Hara, Director of IT Operations at Morrisons, said, “TCS has consistently demonstrated deep domain expertise, technical capability, and a collaborative approach that aligns with our strategic vision. As we accelerate our digital transformation, we are confident that TCS’ automation-first approach and innovative operating model will help us deliver superior service quality, faster time-to-market, and meaningful value to our customers.”
This new agreement builds on several successful transformation programs launched since the two organizations began working together in 2014. In the past, TCS assisted Morrisons in modernizing supply chains, improving delivery times, reducing waste, and tackling stock availability challenges. The company also enhanced Morrisons’ HR operations by upgrading IT and engineering processes.
Shekar Krishnan, Head of Retail – UK at TCS, said, “This expanded partnership is a testament to the strong relationship we have built with Morrisons over the last decade. By leveraging our automated solutions, deep retail domain expertise, and engineering excellence all underpinned by a future-ready operating model we are excited to drive large-scale transformation across digital, marketing, and customer engagement for Morrisons.”
This development reinforces TCS’ position as a trusted strategic partner to major UK enterprises. Over the past 50 years, TCS has worked closely with more than 200 top British brands. The company remains a leader in the UK software and IT services sector and has consistently ranked #1 for customer satisfaction according to surveys of CIOs from top IT-spending organizations. Market research firm Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) recently named TCS as the UK’s top IT service provider within its Software and IT Services Industry (SITSI) Vendor Rankings. TCS posted strong growth of 10% the highest among the top 10 providers along with a 7.6% market share and $4,577 million in UK revenue in FY 2024.
As an innovation partner to global retailers, including many of the world’s top 10 brands, TCS continues helping enterprises build profitable and sustainable ecosystems. With deep domain knowledge across supply chain, merchandising, pricing, marketing, store operations, and business strategy, TCS has consistently supported organizations in delivering omnichannel, hyper-personalized experiences to customers worldwide.
