SwitchBot Launches AI Hub, the First Local Home AI Agent for OpenClaw

SwitchBot Launches AI Hub, the First Local Home AI Agent for OpenClaw

SwitchBot has introduced the SwitchBot AI Hub, positioning it as the world’s first local home AI agent that supports OpenClaw, an open-source autonomous AI framework. Meanwhile, the company continues to expand beyond smart devices by integrating edge computing, computer vision, and conversational AI into a single home intelligence system.

Unlike traditional cloud-dependent smart hubs, AI Hub combines edge AI processing, Vision-Language Models (VLM), and unified smart home control in one device. As a result, it can interpret real-world events through connected cameras, trigger intelligent automations, and function as a local Network Video Recorder (NVR) powered by Frigate. Furthermore, when paired with OpenClaw, users can manage devices, access AI models, and control home automation through everyday chat apps such as WhatsApp, iMessage, and Discord.

SwitchBot plans to roll out official OpenClaw support by the end of February, followed by expanded access to SwitchBot Skills through OpenClaw by the end of March. This phased approach ensures stable deployment while giving users increasing levels of control over their smart homes.

First Local Home AI Agent with Native OpenClaw Support

In contrast to cloud or PC-based OpenClaw setups, SwitchBot AI Hub provides always-on AI operation in a more affordable, compact, and convenient format. Once installed, users can run OpenClaw directly on the hub and connect to multiple Large Language Models through chat-based interfaces. At the same time, OpenClaw can interact with other ecosystems—including Home Assistant, Apple Home, and Google Home—via integrated Skills.

By running AI locally, the hub reduces latency, minimizes cloud dependency, and protects personal data inside a secure, isolated environment. Consequently, users benefit from faster automation while maintaining greater privacy control.

First Edge Hub with Built-In Vision-Language Intelligence

Independently, AI Hub operates as an intelligent edge system that understands visual context, generates smart automation, and manages video data securely. Working with SwitchBot cameras or third-party RTSP devices, the hub analyzes footage, produces daily summaries, supports AI video search, and delivers more accurate alerts.

These insights can automatically trigger automations—such as adjusting lighting, locking doors, or notifying family members—making the system useful for security, elder care, and pet monitoring. Additionally, the built-in Frigate NVR supports up to eight cameras, on-device facial recognition, free local recording, and expandable storage up to 16TB.

As SwitchBot’s first true edge hub, it connects with over 100 SwitchBot devices, supports Matter bridging for up to 30 products, offers dual-band Wi-Fi, extends Bluetooth range, and enables faster local automation. Users can also install Home Assistant for deeper customization.

Smarter Home Control with AI Hub + OpenClaw

When combined with OpenClaw, AI Hub enables natural, conversational home control. Users can ask about temperature, air quality, or camera feeds, and control devices such as lights or air conditioners through chat. OpenClaw also learns user habits over time, offering proactive suggestions.

For example, if the SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell detects a visitor, AI Hub can send an image through chat apps, allowing users to decide whether to unlock the door remotely.

Overall, the integration of AI Hub and OpenClaw creates a smarter, more responsive, and privacy-first home ecosystem that blends memory, perception, and automation into one seamless experience.
