VAST Data Teams with Google Cloud to Scale Enterprise AI

VAST Data, known as the AI Operating System company, has strengthened its collaboration with Google Cloud to launch the first fully managed service for the VAST AI Operating System (AI OS). This update will allow businesses to deploy the AI OS more easily and maintain a unified global namespace across hybrid environments. Using VAST DataSpace, enterprises can seamlessly link clusters operating both in Google Cloud and on-premises, removing the need for time-consuming data migrations and ensuring instant data access wherever AI workloads are executed.

Today, organizations want to run AI where it performs most efficiently. However, their data often sits across multiple environments, and migrating it can take months and cost millions. Disconnected storage, fragmented pipelines, and inconsistent throughput make it difficult to feed AI accelerators reliably, while maintaining compliance becomes even more complex.

To address these challenges, VAST and Google Cloud are giving businesses control over where data lives—turning placement into a choice. In a recorded demonstration, VAST showed how VAST DataSpace connected clusters located more than 10,000 kilometers apart, one in the U.S. and one in Japan. This setup allowed both locations to access identical datasets nearly in real time and run inference workloads with vLLM. With this flexibility, organizations can run AI models on TPUs in the U.S. and GPUs in Japan without duplicating data or managing separate ecosystems.

“Together with Google Cloud, VAST is building a unified data and computing environment that extends to wherever a customer wants to compute and unleashes the potential of AI by unlocking access to all data everywhere,” said Jeff Denworth, Co-Founder at VAST Data. “Delivered as a managed AI Operating System on Google Cloud, customers can go from zero to production in minutes – we’re turning hybrid complexity into a single, intelligent fabric that provides fast access to data, regardless of where it resides to accelerate time to value for agentic AI.”

“Bringing VAST AI Operating System to Google Cloud Marketplace will help customers quickly deploy, manage, and grow the data solution on Google Cloud's trusted, global infrastructure,” said Nirav Mehta, Vice President, Compute Platform at Google Cloud. “VAST can now securely scale and support customers on their digital transformation journeys.”

Enhancing AI Performance With Google Cloud

VAST also shared recent performance results showing how its AI OS integrates directly with Google Cloud TPU virtual machines to support large-scale AI workloads. In testing with Meta’s Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct model, VAST delivered model load speeds comparable to leading cloud-native solutions while providing consistent performance—even during cold starts.

These results confirm that VAST AI OS functions as more than a data platform. It operates as a performance-driven engine that keeps accelerators fully active and AI production pipelines flowing smoothly.

“The VAST AI OS is redefining what it means to move fast in AI, delivering model load speeds comparable to cloud-native alternatives while providing the full power of an advanced, enterprise-grade AI platform,” said Subramanian Kartik, Chief Scientist at VAST Data. “This is the kind of acceleration that turns idle accelerators into active intelligence, driving higher efficiency and faster time to insight for every AI workload.”

Key Benefits for Customers

With VAST on Google Cloud, enterprises gain several advantages:

  • Rapid AI Deployment: Run production-ready AI workloads within minutes, using existing on-prem datasets—no lengthy migrations or compliance delays required.

  • Lower Data-Movement Costs: Stream only the data models need, reducing egress and enabling businesses to redirect spend toward AI innovation.

  • Flexible Data Strategies: Choose what to migrate, replicate, or cache while maintaining one namespace and unified governance policies.

  • TPU-Optimized Data Paths: Connect efficiently to TPU VMs with fast model loading and reliable warm- and cold-start performance.

  • Unified AI Platform: The VAST AI OS integrates DataStore, DataBase, InsightEngine, AgentEngine, and DataSpace to scale across cloud and on-prem environments without major architecture changes.

This expansion underscores VAST and Google Cloud’s shared mission: making AI scalable, flexible, and accessible—no matter where data lives.
