Indosat’s AI Feature Blocks Millions of Scam Calls & Messages

Indosat’s AI Feature Blocks Millions of Scam Calls & Messages

Indosat revealed that since launching its Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam capability on 7 August 2025, the solution has already blocked more than 200 million risky calls, flagged over 90 million suspicious messages, and protected an average of 11.5 million customers per month from potential digital fraud.

This security advancement represents an important milestone in Indosat’s AIvolusi5G journey, which combines AI and 5G technologies to create a safer, more inclusive digital ecosystem for all users.

Network-Level Protection With No Extra Setup

Running directly on the network, the system identifies suspicious calls and messages automatically—without requiring customers to install apps or use special devices.

The need for such protection is heightened by findings in the GASA State of Scams in Indonesia 2025 report, published in late August. According to the report, 66% of Indonesian adults encountered scam attempts within the last year, and 14% lost money totaling IDR 49 trillion (US$3.3B). Most scams happened via SMS and instant messaging platforms. Moreover, 51% of affected adults reported experiencing stress after being scammed.

Billions of Threats Flagged Within Months

Indosat’s internal data shows that the platform identified more than 290 million spam calls over its VoLTE network. When scaled across all customers, this number reflects over 500 million spam and scam calls and SMS messages detected within only 2.5 months of deployment. The company also flagged more than 145 million scam or spam texts, including 110 million fraudulent messages.

While the system is not yet able to fully block all threats, it acts as an impactful early-warning tool that helps prevent financial losses and strengthens awareness. Users receive alerts before risks escalate, giving them time to react safely.

Indosat emphasizes that improving digital literacy is essential. Following the Zero Trust principle—never assume trust, always verify—the company aims to guide the public in identifying suspicious links, messages, and calls.

Accessible Protection for All Users

Powered by AIvolusi5G, Indosat’s Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam feature provides protection without requiring premium hardware.

Through IM3, customers receive protection under the SATSPAM (Satuan Anti Scam dan Spam) framework:

  • SATSPAM BASIC – automatically active for IM3 prepaid users with an active data plan

  • SATSPAM+ – adds advanced protection, including malicious-link detection

For Tri customers, a similar capability—TRI AI: AntiSpam/Scam—uses color-coded warnings:

  • Turquoise = Safe

  • Yellow = Unknown

  • Red = High Risk

Additionally, IM3 and Tri users can enhance their security with the Plus+ protection feature via the myIM3 and bima+ apps. This feature automatically activates for customers with active data packages and provides phone or SMS notifications when suspicious numbers appear. It also offers clearer SMS warnings, color-coded pop-ups, and call history summaries inside the app.

By investing in continuous AI innovation and cybersecurity awareness, Indosat aims to build trust, safeguard customers, and strengthen resilience across Indonesia’s connected society. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader mission of offering world-class digital experiences to empower every Indonesian.

“This technology is designed to help our customers of all age groups explore the digital world with greater confidence. With fast connectivity, accessible products, and strong protection, we remain committed to deliver world class digital experiences, connecting and empowering every Indonesian.” — Bilal Kazmi, Director and Chief Commercial Officer, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison
