Cognizant has announced a strategic partnership with Uniphore to co-develop smarter, domain-specific AI solutions tailored for enterprise environments. Through this collaboration, both companies will combine small language models (SLMs), AI agents, and deep industry expertise to help organizations embed practical and governable AI into real business workflows.
As enterprises accelerate AI adoption, many leaders recognize that large, general-purpose models do not always fit every operational need. Instead, companies increasingly demand targeted AI systems designed around specific industry requirements. Therefore, Cognizant and Uniphore are focusing on precision-driven, domain-specific solutions that align closely with regulatory standards, operational complexities, and measurable business outcomes.
At the core of this partnership is Uniphore’s Business AI Cloud, which unifies enterprise data, knowledge systems, AI models, and intelligent agents within a secure and governed framework. This platform will serve as the foundation for building and fine-tuning specialized small language models. Meanwhile, Cognizant will lead solution design, deployment, and client engagement, ensuring seamless integration into enterprise ecosystems.
By combining technological capabilities with industry know-how, the two companies aim to help enterprises codify institutional knowledge and apply AI in ways that enhance operational efficiency. In highly regulated industries such as Life Sciences and Banking, precision and governance are critical. Consequently, smaller, finely tuned models supported by purpose-built AI agents can deliver greater control, efficiency, and accuracy compared to broad, generic systems.
“Our clients are looking for AI that is designed around their business and incorporates the critical operational context required to deliver business outcomes – and value – from AI,” said Ravi Kumar S, Chief Executive Officer of Cognizant. “By combining domain-specific SLMs developed with Uniphore’s Business AI Cloud with AI agents managed through Cognizant’s platforms, this partnership seeks to incorporate our industry expertise into solutions that are practical, governable and ready to operate at scale.”
Initially, the companies plan to co-create solutions tailored for Life Sciences and Banking and Capital Markets. These offerings will integrate domain-specific SLMs with prebuilt AI agents that support key workflows such as drug discovery, commercial effectiveness, customer onboarding, and operational decision-making. Because these solutions are designed to be repeatable and scalable, enterprises can accelerate adoption across geographies and business units.
“The world’s largest companies are ready for AI that delivers real business impact. That requires systems purpose-built for their most critical workflows,” says Umesh Sachdev, CEO and co-founder of Uniphore. “Partnering with Cognizant enables us to combine Uniphore’s Business AI platform, embedded across the business stack, with deep industry expertise to deliver secure, scalable solutions designed for real-world enterprise execution.”
Ultimately, this partnership reflects a broader shift toward enterprise AI systems that prioritize domain intelligence, governance, and operational value over generalized automation.
