ZTE, a global leader in integrated information and communication technology solutions, has expanded its long-standing partnership with Multimedia University (MMU). The enhancement of this collaboration was formalized through the signing of an official addendum during the closing ceremony of the PRESTIJ program, themed “Shaping the Future-fit Public Services with Cybersecurity in the AI Landscape.”
Over the years, ZTE and MMU have built a strong relationship aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s digital talent ecosystem. Their collaboration first took shape with the establishment of 5G end-to-end labs in Cyberjaya and Melaka. These labs were created to give students and researchers real, hands-on experience with next-gen technologies, helping them see how advanced digital systems work in everyday settings. ZTE also introduced scholarship programs to support high-performing students, ensuring that skilled talent receives opportunities for academic and professional growth.
In recent developments, MMU was chosen as an authorized training and examination center for ZTE Certification. This recognition allows the university to offer certification programs in key areas including 5G, AI, cybersecurity, wireless solutions, and core network technologies. As a result, MMU has strengthened its position as one of Malaysia’s most influential technology education and training hubs.
ZTE’s support further extends to significant institutional initiatives such as the NexGen Communication Engineering Hub, launched in 2023. The hub is built around four core pillars: professional skills development, creativity, research excellence, and industry collaboration. Together, these elements demonstrate Malaysia’s forward-thinking strategy to prepare a new generation of highly capable digital professionals.
The partnership has also moved beyond academic circles. In 2024, ZTE collaborated with MMU to deliver the “ACE: Navigating the Digital Frontier for Smart Government” program. This initiative focused on equipping government officers with practical digital and emerging technology skills. After nearly six months of specialized training across seven major cities in China, the program concluded in Beijing. A closing ceremony was then held on December 3 at MMU Cyberjaya to commemorate the successful completion of the China–Malaysia training collaboration. The event highlighted the achievements of participating officers and emphasized the ongoing commitment of both nations to develop a digitally empowered public sector.
The newly signed addendum strengthens the partnership by enabling MMU to adopt ZTE’s advanced AiCube AI education and computing platform, along with smart classroom technologies. AiCube integrates high-performance AI computing with an interactive learning environment to create immersive and personalized education experiences. These new facilities will be shared by both MMU students and JPA program participants, providing a unified platform for AI and cybersecurity learning, research, and project development.
ZTE reiterated its dedication to supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation journey through continued investment in talent development, innovative learning technologies, and robust partnerships across academia and government institutions. With this expanded collaboration, both ZTE and MMU aim to elevate national capabilities in AI, cybersecurity, and next-generation connectivity—ensuring Malaysia remains prepared for the digital future.
Gu Junying, Senior Vice President, ZTE, stated:
“We are honoured to support Malaysia's public service and academic institutions as they build essential digital capabilities. Even as participants complete their programmes today, the journey of learning continues. Technology evolves quickly, and continuous development is vital to building a future-ready workforce.”
Professor Dato' Dr. Mazliham Mohd Suud, President, MMU, added:
“MMU welcomes this enhanced collaboration with ZTE. The deployment of the AiCube platform strengthens our ability to train industry-ready graduates and public service leaders, and supports Malaysia's broader digital transformation agenda. This collaboration reinforces MMU's role as a leading institution for technology-driven education, research, and talent development.”
