Tata Communications Acquires 51% of Commotion Inc. to Accelerate AI-First Transformation

Tata Communications has announced the acquisition of a 51% stake in Commotion Inc., a US-based and India-operated AI-native enterprise SaaS company, in a move that strengthens the company’s push toward becoming an AI-first global technology provider. The all-cash transaction, executed through a Stock Purchase Agreement, marks one of Tata Communications’ most significant strategic investments in artificial intelligence to date.

Commotion Inc. is known for its advanced orchestration engine and AI-driven automation capabilities, enabling enterprises to unify Voice AI, autonomous digital agents, and real-time omnichannel customer experiences. By integrating Commotion’s platform into its Digital Fabric suite, Tata Communications aims to accelerate AI-based transformation across customer engagement, enterprise workflows, and global communication systems.

One of the biggest areas of impact will be Tata Communications’ Customer Interaction Suite, including Tata Communications Kaleyra. Commotion’s orchestration engine will plug directly into Kaleyra’s core components—its communication channels, TX Hub, and CCaaS offering—to power end-to-end automated customer journeys. Instead of reactive service interactions, the combined solution will pave the way for predictive, generative, and policy-aware engagement across both customer-facing and internal functions.

Commotion brings three major capabilities that Tata Communications plans to scale globally:

  • Omnichannel CX Automation: Real-time, hyper-personalised and data-driven customer interactions across voice, text, and digital channels.

  • Voice AI Solutions: Ultra-low latency speech-to-speech AI models capable of delivering fast, human-like conversational experiences.

  • Autonomous Digital Agents: Enterprise-grade, always-on, compliant and intelligent AI agents that streamline operations and automate complex workflows.

According to the company, these capabilities will allow brands worldwide to orchestrate entire customer journeys, introduce generative AI service experiences, and automate operational processes that traditionally required significant human involvement.

A.S. Lakshminarayanan, MD & CEO of Tata Communications, called the acquisition a pivotal milestone for the company. “This marks a significant step in our journey to redefine customer experience in the AI era. With Commotion’s capabilities already integrated into Tata Communications Kaleyra, we are seeing phenomenal customer traction. We expect this momentum to further accelerate our evolution into an AI-first organisation,” he said.

Commotion Inc. CEO Murali Swaminathan said the partnership represents more than just investment—it reflects shared ambition and global potential. “Together, we will unlock AI’s full potential in many industry sectors, building solutions that scale responsibly and transform the way the world works,” he noted.

The acquisition reinforces Tata Communications’ commitment to embedding AI across its ecosystem and enabling enterprises to transition from pilot-stage experimentation to large-scale, business-critical AI adoption. As demand for autonomous and predictive AI solutions grows globally, the combination of Tata Communications’ Digital Fabric and Commotion’s AI-native platform positions the company for strong competitive advantage in next-generation digital experiences.
