Discover Halifax & GuideGeek Launch AI Travel Genius

Visitors planning their next trip to Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) now have a smarter way to explore the region. Discover Halifax has introduced Halifax AI, a new artificial intelligence travel companion designed to deliver instant, personalized answers to any tourism-related question about the area. Whether a traveler wants to discover hidden coastal gems, find new attractions, or plan a weekend getaway, Halifax AI is ready to curate meaningful experiences in real time.

This innovative tool is powered by GuideGeek AI technology from Matador Network. It pulls insights from Discover Halifax’s extensive library of travel data, including local business listings, event information, and maps. Moreover, it integrates with more than 1,000 travel information sources via GuideGeek’s award-winning AI system. As a result, Halifax AI can provide tailored itineraries and recommendations that reflect both tourist interests and regional authenticity.

Inclusivity played a key role in the AI’s development.

"Our team worked with Discover Halifax to ensure the content served is inclusive," says Matador Network CEO Ross Borden. "The responses from the AI balance urban and rural recommendations, and also support underrepresented communities including Mi'kmaq, 2SLGBTQIA+, and African Nova Scotians."

This commitment ensures travelers receive a more culturally rich perspective on Halifax and its surrounding communities.

Discover Halifax believes Halifax AI enhances accessibility to regional experiences and simplifies trip planning for visitors.

"Our new AI tool utilizes everything that's great about discoverhalifaxns.com to provide an alternative option for visitors seeking information about the region," says Clare Tidby, Discover Halifax's Vice President of Marketing and Visitor Experience. "The AI is trained on our website content, guides, maps, and member listings to ensure well-rounded, thoughtful responses to visitor inquiries."

Travelers can access Halifax AI directly on Discover Halifax’s website by clicking the chat icon located in the bottom-right corner. Users can ask for a complete itinerary tailored to their interests, budget, and travel style or request recommendations focused on specific activities like glamping spots, waterfront dining, or iconic hiking trails.

With this launch, Discover Halifax joins a growing number of Canadian destination marketing organizations (DMOs) leveraging GuideGeek technology. The lineup includes Destination Toronto, Travel Manitoba, and Tourism Richmond. This AI-driven tourism movement is also expanding internationally, with participation from travel boards in New Zealand, Greece, and New York City.
