Wallapop, Spain’s leading conscious consumption platform, has announced a strategic partnership with Swiss AI company Albatross to introduce real-time AI discovery across its marketplace. This collaboration marks a major shift in how users explore and discover products, while simultaneously helping sellers gain better visibility at scale. By adopting Albatross’ adaptive AI technology, Wallapop aims to transform its platform from static recommendation systems to dynamic, intent-driven discovery experiences.
Traditionally, online marketplaces rely on recommendation engines that analyze past browsing behavior. However, Wallapop is now moving toward in-session adaptive discovery, which understands user intent as it develops in real time. As a result, the platform can respond instantly to changing interests. For example, when a user browses a second-hand sofa and then starts exploring rugs or lighting, the system recognizes the shift in intent—from evaluating a single product to furnishing an entire living space. Consequently, instead of showing more sofas, the platform highlights complementary products such as décor, lamps, or storage items that match the user’s evolving preferences.
Moreover, this intelligent system continuously adapts as the browsing session progresses. If a user clicks on a vintage coffee table, the platform begins recommending matching décor pieces, artwork, or lighting that align with the same style. This approach allows users to discover relevant listings organically, often uncovering items they were not actively searching for. Therefore, discovery becomes more personalized, contextual, and meaningful, helping users find unique products faster.
This announcement comes shortly after Albatross raised $12.25 million to expand its real-time AI perception technology. Unlike generative AI, which focuses on creating content, Albatross specializes in improving how users discover content in environments filled with overwhelming choices. Early deployment results on Wallapop have already delivered impressive outcomes. During a four-week A/B test covering 10% of Wallapop’s homepage traffic, the platform achieved a 118.9% increase in user engagement, a 104.8% rise in favorites and interactions, and a 46.9% improvement in purchase intentions. Importantly, the system also surfaced hidden listings that previously received limited attention, helping sellers reach the right buyers more effectively.
Beyond improving buyer experience, this partnership also strengthens seller discovery. By dynamically matching buyer intent with relevant listings, the platform ensures that quality products do not get lost among millions of listings. This capability addresses one of the biggest challenges in recommerce—connecting the right buyers with the right products at the right time.
“At Wallapop, we are moving toward a system that understands what users want in real time, helping buyers find the right items faster while giving sellers more effective visibility for their listings,” says Rob Cassedy, CEO of Wallapop. “Our collaboration with Albatross represents another step forward in our mission to empower people to participate in a more conscious consumption model that creates economic opportunities for people.”
Unlike traditional recommendation engines, Albatross’ perception model continuously interprets live user interactions. Every action refines the system’s understanding, allowing it to adapt instantly to changes in user behavior, catalog updates, and marketplace context. This innovation is particularly valuable for second-hand marketplaces, where unique items and inconsistent data often limit traditional recommendation accuracy.
“Together with Wallapop, we’re delivering an online discovery experience comparable to the best in-store journey; one where users uncover products that feel like true hidden gems, tailored just for them, in real time” said Dr. Kevin Kahn, CEO of Albatross AI. “While large language models make sense of words, Albatross’ perception model makes sense of the sequence and context of user actions as they happen. This partnership demonstrates a radical shift in discovery, search, and personalization, which have seen little innovation for more than a decade.”
Ultimately, this partnership represents one of the earliest large-scale deployments of adaptive AI discovery in consumer-to-consumer marketplaces. As Wallapop continues to innovate, it reinforces its commitment to leading the next generation of AI-powered recommerce while improving experiences for both buyers and sellers.
