TextNow & Enea Partner to Fight Growing SMS Spam and Scams

TextNow & Enea Partner to Fight Growing SMS Spam and Scams

TextNow and Enea have formed a strategic partnership to strengthen protections against the rising wave of spam, scams, and harmful text-based threats across North America. As text messaging continues to be a preferred communication channel for millions of users, the growing sophistication of fraudulent campaigns has created an urgent need for stronger digital security and more advanced scam prevention measures.

To reinforce its commitment to user protection, TextNow is adopting Enea’s Adaptive Messaging Firewall and Threat Intelligence Services. This upgraded security layer comes at a critical moment. According to the Federal Trade Commission, fraudulent text complaints have risen by 60% year-over-year since early 2024, making SMS the second most exploited fraud channel after email. The surge in malicious activity now includes highly deceptive “cold opener” messages, which begin as harmless wrong-number texts but quickly evolve into manipulative conversations that lead to phishing attempts or financial fraud.

Because these messages appear friendly and unthreatening, identifying and stopping them requires specialized detection capabilities — exactly what Enea’s security solutions are designed to deliver. By integrating the Adaptive Messaging Firewall, TextNow will be able to rapidly identify evolving threats, strengthen its trust and safety operations, and block fraud campaigns before they impact users. This approach reinforces TextNow’s ongoing investment in anti scam technologies and advanced ai fraud detection techniques.

Jon Halk, Head of Design and Customer Journey at TextNow, emphasized the company’s mission-driven focus, stating:

“Trust and safety are an important part of TextNow’s mission to make free phone service available to everyone. Partnering with Enea allows us to make progress in our efforts against increasingly sophisticated threats and work towards keeping those users who rely on our service as safe as possible.”

Enea shares this commitment to protecting mobile users from emerging risks. John Hughes, SVP and Head of Network Security Business Group at Enea, praised TextNow’s proactive leadership, saying:

“TextNow’s dedication to user security is commendable and sets a strong example in the industry. Our Adaptive Messaging Firewall equips TextNow with the tools and insights needed to ensure a safe and trusted messaging experience for all their phone users.”

Overall, this partnership represents a critical advancement in mobile security. As threats grow increasingly complex, the combination of Enea’s threat intelligence and TextNow’s user-focused mission creates a stronger defense framework for millions of users. The collaboration not only enhances detection capabilities but also supports broader efforts to build a safer digital ecosystem backed by powerful analytics, automated threat monitoring, and evolving cyber safety standards.
