Salesforce to Acquire Waii, Boost Data Cloud & Tableau

Salesforce to Acquire Waii, Boost Data Cloud & Tableau

Salesforce has announced plans to acquire Waii, a cutting-edge natural language-to-SQL platform, in a move set to revolutionize how businesses interact with their data.

Waii’s technology transforms everyday language into accurate SQL queries, eliminating the need for specialized skills from data scientists or engineers. Since most businesses store vast amounts of data in complex SQL databases, this innovation allows non-technical employees to easily extract and analyze critical information.

For example, a sales rep could simply ask, “Which customers in Region A are up for renewal?” Waii instantly converts that into SQL code, delivering precise results. Beyond this, the platform features a self-learning metadata knowledge graph a dynamic “smart map” that adapts to each business’s unique data structure.

Unlocking Data for Everyone

Salesforce aims to make every piece of data on its platform accessible and relevant to all employees, from executives to frontline teams. Raveendrnathan Loganathan, EVP of Salesforce Data Cloud, shared the team’s vision, saying:

“The future of business isn’t just collecting more data it’s about making that data understandable and useful. We want every employee to be able to confidently engage with their data and get trusted answers.”

He added that Waii’s deep understanding of metadata will be the catalyst to bring this vision to life removing the technical barriers that slow decision-making and innovation.

Boosting Salesforce’s AI Capabilities

While improving data accessibility is the primary driver behind the acquisition, the move also strengthens Salesforce’s AI capabilities. Integrating Waii with Agentforce will allow AI agents to instantly access, understand, and act on data triggering enterprise-wide automations.

Gunther Hagleitner, Waii’s co-founder & CEO, highlighted the synergy:

“Waii’s technology builds a shared understanding of data, making it easier for both people and AI to connect with any data source. By joining Salesforce, we’re excited to bring that vision to millions more users around the world.”

Integration Plans and Future Impact

Once the deal closes, Salesforce plans to integrate Waii into its Data Cloud, transforming it into a conversational customer data platform (CDP). The technology will also power Tableau Next, making it easy for users to create and view visualizations just by asking questions in plain language.

This aligns with Salesforce’s vision for agentic analytics where exploring trends and extracting insights is as easy as having a conversation and embedding them directly into workflows.

A Rapid Rise and a Busy Acquisition Year

Founded in May 2023, Waii’s rise has been rapid. By August 2025, it had already caught the attention of one of the world’s largest software companies. The acquisition, expected to close in Salesforce’s third fiscal quarter of 2026, comes just a week after its announced purchase of Bluebirds, a presales prospecting platform designed to automate lead targeting and scoring.

This year alone, Salesforce has also acquired Informatica for $8 billion, along with Convergence.ai, Own Company, and the remaining assets of Moonhub all aimed at strengthening Data Cloud, Tableau Next, and AI agent capabilities.

With Waii in its portfolio, Salesforce moves one step closer to building an enterprise environment where working with data is as natural as asking a question.
