FirstLight, Green 4 Maine Launch Green Data Center in North Maine

FirstLight, a major digital infrastructure provider serving the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions, has announced a strategic partnership with Green 4 Maine to position Northern Maine as a top hub for environmentally sustainable, next-generation data centers. This collaboration aims to attract AI-driven organizations and cloud service providers who need access to renewable energy, vast land availability, and high-performance fiber connectivity while keeping sustainability at the forefront.

The initiative centers around the transformation of the former Loring Air Force Base a historic Cold War military site into a cutting-edge technology destination. The expansive 1.25 million square feet of existing commercial property has been re-envisioned as the Green 4 Maine Campus and Innovation Hub at Loring, dedicated to supporting technology innovation and digital growth. FirstLight already has deep roots in Maine with more than 25 years in the region, and its high-capacity, fully diverse fiber network is deployed throughout the property, giving future data center customers immediate access to top-tier infrastructure.

Scott Hinkel, CEO of Green 4 Maine, highlighted the significance of the project:

“Green 4 Maine has breathed new life into a historic site and positioned it as one of the most attractive technology-based innovation hub locations in the country,” said Scott Hinkel, CEO at Green 4 Maine. “With abundant clean energy, FirstLight’s low latency, high-capacity fiber network and the site’s unmatched physical capacity, Loring is ready to support the data-intensive applications driving today’s technological revolution.”

The campus is designed to supply major clean energy capacity, which is critical as global demand for data processing and AI workloads continues to rise. FirstLight’s high-strand fiber network ensures the scalability required for operations moving terabits of data with ultra-low latency and high reliability.

Organizations choosing to deploy inside the Green 4 Maine data center locations will gain more than just strong connectivity. They benefit from direct access to FirstLight’s dense, multi-state fiber network spanning from the Canadian border to major digital hubs such as Boston, Montreal, New York City, Ashburn, and throughout Pennsylvania. These physically diverse pathways support resiliency, redundancy, and mission-critical uptime.

Lorenzo Leuzzi, Chief Revenue Officer at FirstLight, reinforced the site’s importance:

“The Green 4 Maine Campus and Innovation Hub at Loring represents everything the future of data centers demands - abundant power, immense physical capacity, and a location ready to scale with the next generation of technology,” said Lorenzo Leuzzi, Chief Revenue Officer at FirstLight. “FirstLight is thrilled to offer our high-capacity, low-latency network at this site, offering the speed, scalability and strategic fiber routes these high-profile customers require.”

Along with digital infrastructure advancement, this project is expected to stimulate long-term economic growth in Northern Maine. It will generate new technology and skilled labor jobs while expanding the regional tax base.

As AI adoption accelerates and data-intensive applications multiply, Maine is now poised to become a vital player in the global data ecosystem supporting responsible growth driven by green energy and future-ready connectivity.
