Wipro Limited, a global leader in AI-driven technology services and consulting, has announced a significant strategic alliance with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID). This collaboration aims to advance research and innovation across some of the most critical frontier technologies shaping the future.
This alliance will be further strengthened by the Wipro Innovation Network, an essential part of the Wipro Intelligence™ ecosystem. The network brings together Wipro’s expanded suite of AI-powered platforms, solutions, and transformative services, enabling co-innovation, enterprise-scale transformation, and the development of high-impact AI applications.
As part of the agreement, Wipro and IISc will launch a joint research program that concentrates on quantum computing, advanced AI models, secure digital architectures, and new frameworks for autonomous and intelligent networks. Through this initiative, senior researchers, faculty members, and scientists from IISc will collaborate directly with Wipro’s engineers, architects, and technology experts. This combined expertise will strengthen Wipro’s ability to deliver cutting-edge AI-powered capabilities across industries such as telecommunications, manufacturing, BFSI, and healthcare.
Highlighting the partnership’s importance, Sandhya Arun, Chief Technology Officer, Wipro Limited, said, “We are excited to partner with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to accelerate innovation in AI and other prioritized frontier technology themes. By combining the strengths of IISc in advanced technical research with Wipro’s experience in applied innovation and industry solutions, we aim to address some of the most complex challenges and high impact opportunities, that global enterprises face in an increasingly fast-evolving technology landscape.”
The collaboration will also support Wipro’s development of new intellectual property, scalable AI models, and next-generation platforms. These innovations will be accessible to clients through Wipro’s WINGS and WEGA delivery platforms and its industry-specific solution frameworks under the Wipro Intelligence™ umbrella. For IISc, this partnership expands its research pipeline, accelerates industry-driven validation, and opens pathways for technology commercialization.
Emphasizing the value of academia-industry collaboration, Rajesh Sundaresan, Dean, Division of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Sciences (EECS), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), stated, “Academia-industry collaboration is critical for solving complex scientific challenges and ensuring they create real-world value. Wipro and IISc have had a long history of partnership and collaboration, since at least 1979 when the two embarked on the design and development of microprocessor based mini-computer systems. The current partnership with Wipro strengthens IISc’s ability to advance research in intelligent systems, digital infrastructure, and secure computing. Together, we look forward to creating innovations that move from the lab to industry and society.”
Teams from both organizations will focus on developing next-generation solutions in high-impact areas including:
-
Autonomous network intelligence and next-generation agentic AI for high-performance, self-managing networks, including future 6G environments.
-
Agentic and embodied AI for advanced robotics, manufacturing, automotive, and industrial simulations.
-
Secure computing and high-performance optimization using quantum-inspired models for resilient operations across supply chain, finance, energy, and critical infrastructure.
-
Digital trust, distributed ledger innovations, and quantum-safe frameworks to enhance secure transactions within BFSI, healthcare, and public sector ecosystems.
This partnership reinforces Wipro’s broader mission to accelerate innovation by leveraging its global network of innovation labs, partner ecosystems, Wipro Ventures, the Topcoder platform, and academic alliances. Together, these capabilities foster continuous ideation, research, and scalable innovation.
