Muck Rack, a communications platform that combines trusted data, professional expertise, and embedded artificial intelligence, has launched AI Visibility Badges, a new feature designed to help PR and communications teams understand which journalists and media outlets influence AI-generated answers the most.
As generative AI becomes a primary channel for discovering information, brands increasingly depend on credible sources to appear in AI-driven responses. Recognizing this shift, Muck Rack introduced AI Visibility Badges to highlight the journalists and media outlets most frequently cited by AI systems. By identifying these influential sources, the platform enables communications professionals to refine their media outreach strategies and align them with the evolving AI-driven information ecosystem.
The badges work by analyzing how often a journalist or media outlet appears as a cited source in AI-generated answers. These indicators appear across key workflows within the Muck Rack platform, allowing PR teams to factor AI influence directly into their research, pitching, and reporting processes. As a result, organizations can make more informed decisions about which journalists and publications may help amplify their brand visibility in AI-generated content.
Understanding AI Visibility Badge Levels
Each badge tier reflects how frequently an outlet or journalist is referenced by AI systems across a wide range of prompts and topics. The highest tier, Highest AI Visibility, indicates that a media outlet consistently appears as a cited source across many AI-generated answers. The High AI Visibility tier signals that a source frequently appears in related prompts. Meanwhile, the Some AI Visibility tier applies to journalists or outlets that appear occasionally in AI responses, often tied to specific topics or niche subjects.
These rankings rely on extensive data analysis. Muck Rack evaluates more than 15 million AI response citations derived from its Generative Pulse dataset, which examines a wide range of prompts spanning multiple industries and subjects. The company updates badge tiers monthly to reflect evolving citation patterns and ensure that rankings remain accurate. To qualify for a badge, journalists and media outlets must already be listed within the Muck Rack platform.
Bridging the Gap Between PR and AI Discovery
The launch of AI Visibility Badges also highlights how generative AI is transforming information discovery. In this new environment, visibility increasingly depends on credibility rather than content volume. Brands that appear in AI-generated answers typically rely on trusted journalism and authoritative sources cited by large language models.
Recent research from Muck Rack illustrates this shift clearly. According to the company’s State of AI in PR study, 76% of PR professionals now use generative AI in their work. At the same time, Muck Rack’s “What is AI Reading?” December 2025 report reveals that only 2% of journalists pitched by PR teams overlap with the sources cited by AI systems. This finding indicates that traditional outreach strategies often fail to align with the sources that AI models rely on when generating answers.
To address this disconnect, AI Visibility Badges surface critical insights directly within everyday PR workflows. When building media lists or planning outreach campaigns, teams can instantly see a journalist or outlet’s AI visibility tier. Consequently, they can prioritize sources that are more likely to influence AI-generated narratives and improve their brand’s visibility across AI platforms.
Powered by Generative Pulse Intelligence
The new feature integrates data from Generative Pulse, Muck Rack’s analytics tool that tracks how brands appear in AI-generated responses and identifies the sources shaping those narratives. Generative Pulse also reveals how brand visibility evolves across major large language models over time and highlights which journalists and outlets have the strongest influence on AI-driven information flows.
By embedding this intelligence directly into media research and outreach tools, Muck Rack helps PR professionals adapt their strategies to the AI era. Ultimately, the introduction of AI Visibility Badges offers organizations a clearer view of how information spreads through AI systems and which voices shape those digital narratives.
