AI21 Labs & Together AI Join Forces to Expand Open-Source AI

AI21 Labs and Together AI have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the adoption of open-source AI across both AI-native companies and large enterprises. Through this collaboration, AI21’s advanced agent orchestration system, Maestro, will be integrated with Together AI’s powerful model platform. This connection allows organizations to build sophisticated knowledge agents using Maestro while leveraging Together AI’s extensive collection of highly optimized open-source models.

Although open-source development has significantly advanced AI research and innovation, enterprise adoption remains slower and more constrained. A recent McKinsey report highlights that nearly 75% of organizations intend to expand their use of open-source AI, with many expecting cost reductions as a key benefit. The partnership between AI21 and Together AI is designed to close this adoption gap by simplifying how organizations implement, evaluate, and operationalize open models within their existing infrastructure.

As enterprises race to embed generative AI across critical business functions, they are increasingly looking for transparency, model flexibility, and freedom from restrictive black-box systems. This joint offering supports that shift by making open-source solutions easier to access, integrate, and scale. Together, the two companies aim to deliver an AI architecture that is not only cost-effective but also more adaptable and enterprise-ready.

By combining AI21’s orchestration capabilities with Together AI’s diverse model ecosystem, organizations gain greater control over their AI strategy. This includes the ability to switch models, tailor them to specific workflows, and blend multiple open-source systems to achieve higher-quality outputs. As the AI industry evolves rapidly, both companies believe this partnership positions enterprises to innovate faster and deliver stronger results.

Speaking about the growing importance of open AI frameworks, Vipul Ved Prakash, CEO of Together AI, stated, “Open-source is the way forward for AI. We believe open models democratize frontier capabilities, making them accessible to any organization and offering more control and cost efficiencies. Our collaboration with AI21 brings those models natively into enterprise environments in a seamless, actionable way.”

Echoing this perspective, Ori Goshen, Co-CEO of AI21 Labs, emphasized the value of intelligent model coordination: “Maestro was built to orchestrate models intelligently, regardless of origin. By integrating Together AI's open-source ecosystem, we're enabling enterprises to aggregate the intelligence of a diverse portfolio of open-source models - providing true model choice, full transparency, and the building blocks to operationalize agent systems reliably.”

Overall, this partnership strengthens the push toward open, transparent, and flexible AI architectures—making it easier for businesses to adopt generative AI at scale with both efficiency and confidence.
